Nala and Jasmine

I'm sure you remember these cuties from last week. Nala and Jasmine were fantastic to work with, and by "fantastic" I mean that they didn't spend too much time hiding under the bed. Jasmine didn't seem to care all too much what I was doing. In fact, she seemed to enjoy herself at times.

Other times, not so much.

I am a serious cat. Either feed me or get out of my face.

Nala was a little more wary of me, but she warmed up. All it took was a little bribery.

Overall we had a great shoot!

Katie the pug

Ok, it's time for a collective head-tilt. Everybody together, now..."awww." I'm usually not a small dog fan, but Katie is, let's face it, adorable. How can you say no to a face like this? I'll tell you...you can't. Which might explain Katie's cute little belly, hmm?

Ras na...what?

I ran the Ras na Heireann 5k yesterday (and yes, I totally had to google that to get the correct spelling). With a field of 5,000 people, it's the largest race that I've done so far. I ran essentially the same course in December, and got stuck behind a bunch of walkers for about the first mile, so I was a little concerned about that happening again. That concern was totally unfounded, however, as the race was super well-organized. We separated ourselves into corrals at the starting line according to our pace, and I didn't get trapped by any walkers! Woohoo! I missed my goal by 2 seconds, but I'm still quite proud of my time (8:16 avg pace, if anyone is interested).

My cheering section insisted that I got passed by several people pushing strollers, but half of the cheering section is a pathological liar (hi, sister, I love you!). I still don't know if that's true or not, but honestly it wouldn't surprise me. I have a tendency to get passed by 8 and 10 year old kids. Seriously. There's nothing that will take the wind right out of your sails quite as fast as a kid that's half your size and 1/3 your age blowing right by you as you're approaching the finish line.

And nothing will take the wind out of HIS sails quite like surreptitiously sticking out your arm and clotheslining the little upstart.

Moving right along. The finisher's medal is probably one of the more useful medals that I've gotten. Not only is it a bottle opener; it's a keychain, too! What better way to celebrate your athletic endeavors than by cracking open a beer.

In other news, I did a photo session with two lovely cats this weekend, Nala and Jasmine. Here's a sneak peak, enjoy!

Jasmine, displaying the sense of entitlement that all cats have down to a science.

And Nala, who clearly has not been fed in weeks, the poor dear.

Bailey

I smile when Bailey smiles.

I've never seen a tongue like this, but I'm told it's because she's part chow.

bailey_petportrait_05

How old do you think she is? Go on, take a guess...3, 4?

She's 12! Wow, you would never know it by looking at her. She's as happy and wiggly as a puppy.

I adore this image. I think it needs to be a huge canvas. How can you not smile when you see it?

Gunner

Say hi to Gunner, internets! Gunner is a 3-year old German Shorthaired Pointer/Great Dane mix who was rescued from a shelter. He had kind of a rough start in life, but now has a wonderful home with his very awesome people.

I love this dog. Love him to pieces. So, I was thrilled when I got to do a session with him! We started out our day in the park.

Gunner didn't realize it's not quite swimming weather yet. The ice was a bit of a surprise to him.

Then we went to Petco for some new toys. Apparently Gunner disapproves of the selection.

And then it was off to the groomer's for a bath. We went to BYOD in Newton - blog post to follow about just how fabulous this place is.

Obligatory First Post

You know when is a really good time to start a blog? If you think the answer is "when you are so busy that you don't even have time to pop a lean cuisine in the microwave", then you would be...me.

So where, pray tell, is all my time going?

Work. I have a 9-5 working with wonderful people at an investment firm.

School (part time). I'm within two weeks of finishing my program (Professional Photography Certificate), woohoo! It's been a fantastic year and a half and I have learned SO much, but I'm definitely looking forward to having that time back.

Running. I'm currently in training for a half marathon (not any specific one yet - I'm looking for one this summer. If anyone has any suggestions for good ones in the New England area, let me know!). I'm also part of a running club.

Interning. For the always fabulous Anne Ruthmann (look for me on her blog chronicling my life as an intern)

Oh yeah, I do take pictures sometimes, too :)

Yes, I am a busy girl, and I like it that way. I firmly believe that the best way to get something done is to give it to someone who is already busy. So, why not start a blog? And, since it's kind of a crying shame to have a photography blog post without a picture, here's one of my favorite pictures ever taken of me. Normally I am very camera shy, but my friend wanted some running shots for her sports/outdoor lifestyle portfolio. She is SO talented, and her site can be found here. Thanks, Althea!
